Franklin certainly was prophetic.
235 years ago, a group of rebellious individuals decided that some rights WERE worth fighting and dying for and one of the most unique governments in the history of the world was born.
Built with the knowledge that the true threat to freedom comes not from foreign enemies but from internal apathy and lust for power, the founders of our country created a government that was severely limited in power and reach. A government that not only permitted but required personal responsibility and individuality.
We've spent the last 150 years watering it down - especially the last 80 or so (medicare, social security, public "education", "Patriot" Act, TSA, ) - but it's still the best place to live the world has ever seen.
Happy Birthday, America! To another 235 years - if we can keep it.
